Intense Pulsed Light Photofacial

IPL Pigmentation & Skin Renewal

The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology we use at Reborne is a medical-grade device - one of the most powerful and clinically validated in its class. It delivers high-peak-power light pulses across a broad spectrum of wavelengths, absorbed selectively by chromophores in the skin: melanin in pigmented lesions, and haemoglobin in vascular structures. The result is a targeted clearance of sun damage, pigmentation, redness, and vascular irregularities that leaves the surrounding tissue entirely undisturbed.

At Reborne, the treatment is administered by our aesthetic medical team following a thorough skin assessment. It is among the fastest and most effective treatments available for the cumulative photodamage, pigmentary changes, and vascular irregularities that give skin an aged and uneven appearance - often producing dramatic improvements in a single session.

Intense Pulsed Light Treatment

The Technology

Intense Pulsed Light

Intense Pulsed Light emits broad-spectrum light that is absorbed by specific targets in the skin, without damaging the surrounding tissue. Melanin in pigmented lesions absorbs the light energy, converting it to heat that destroys the lesion from within. Haemoglobin in blood vessels absorbs at different wavelengths, causing the vessel to collapse and be reabsorbed by the body.

Reborne IPL delivers this at higher peak power than conventional IPL devices, which means greater clinical efficacy at fewer sessions, with wavelengths optimised specifically for the chromophore targets most relevant to skin rejuvenation. It is not a consumer light therapy. It is a medical device, requiring clinical assessment and operator expertise to use safely and effectively.

How the Procedure Works

A cool gel is applied to the treatment area and protective eyewear provided. The Intense Pulsed Light handpiece is passed systematically over the skin, delivering a series of bright light pulses. Each pulse feels like a brief snap of warmth - most clients describe the sensation as mild and easily tolerated.

In the days following treatment, pigmented lesions darken before gradually shedding - a normal and expected part of the process as the body clears the treated chromophore. Redness and mild swelling for a few hours following treatment is common. Most clients return to normal activities the same day. Sun protection is essential for a minimum of four weeks following treatment.

Treatment Experience

What to Expect

Pigmented lesions will darken in the days immediately following treatment before clearing over one to two weeks - this is the intended response, not a side effect. Vascular lesions may appear to intensify briefly before fading. The full result of a single session is typically visible at two to four weeks, once the skin has completed its clearance process.

Many clients see significant improvement after a single session. A course of two to three treatments spaced four weeks apart is recommended for clients with more extensive sun damage or vascular irregularity, or for those seeking comprehensive skin rejuvenation. Results are long-lasting when combined with appropriate sun protection.

Treatment Areas

Treatment Areas

Lumecca is one of the most versatile phototherapy treatments available, addressing a wide range of pigmentary, vascular, and skin quality concerns across the face and body.

  • Solar lentigines - the flat brown spots that accumulate on the face, chest, hands, and arms over years of sun exposure - are among the most responsive lesions to IPL. Its high peak power clears them rapidly and thoroughly, producing one of the most visible single-session improvements in skin appearance available in aesthetic medicine.

  • The haemoglobin-targeting wavelengths of IPL effectively reduce diffuse facial redness, flushing, and the telangiectasia associated with rosacea. IPL is one of the most clinically evidenced treatments for vascular rosacea, reducing redness and the inflammatory burden in the superficial vascular network of the face.

  • Facial thread veins, spider naevi, and other superficial vascular lesions are collapsed by the targeted haemoglobin absorption of the treatment, causing the vessel to be reabsorbed by the body. Results are typically visible within one to two weeks of treatment.

  • Beyond targeting specific lesions, broad-spectrum light stimulates collagen synthesis and improves overall skin tone and texture, producing a global improvement in skin quality and luminosity alongside the targeted clearance of pigmentation and vascular irregularities.

  • Sun damage and vascular irregularities on the chest, hands, arms, and neck respond well to this treatment - areas that are frequently neglected in aesthetic medicine despite being among the most revealing indicators of skin age. Treatment protocols for body areas are adapted in intensity and spacing from facial protocols.

Is IPL Right for Me?

The IPL Pigmentation & Skin Renewal is suitable for skin types I–IV and most adults with pigmentary or vascular skin concerns. It is not appropriate for active tans, very dark skin types, or clients on photosensitising medications. A thorough skin assessment is conducted before every treatment to confirm suitability and design the appropriate protocol.

Every client undergoes a medical aesthetic consultation before treatment. Your clinician will assess your skin, discuss your goals, and confirm the number of sessions, treatment intensity, and any combination therapies most appropriate for your specific situation.
